2014 Walk-a-thon FAQs

Get ready to walk… and ROCK… at the Springer Walk-a-thon on Saturday, October 11!

Please save the date for our school’s not-to-be-missed all-school fall fundraiser, the annual Springer Walk-a-thon: Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 10 am to 3 pm. In addition to being a great way to contribute to Springer, you’ll enjoy getting to know other families at this awesome event!

You’ll be hearing a lot about the Walk-a-thon in coming weeks, but here are a few FAQs:

Q: What is the Walk-a-thon?

A: The Walk-a-thon is an all-school event and a major Springer fundraiser, open to all Springer students (K-6) and their families. Students obtain pledges from family, friends and neighbors who donate money in a flat amount or towards each lap a child walks around the Springer field (your child will probably surprise you with how many he or she can walk!). The school grounds will be transformed, complete with decorations, music, food, fun and prizes (this year’s theme is Rock-n-roll, and the Springer Walk-a-thon will be a “Rock-a-thon”!). Walk-a-thon t-shirts are a traditional “must have” and are provided to all student walkers. Pre-order food via the online Back to School Order Form (or a paper form in the office) or bring a picnic, stop by the bake sale, buy raffle tickets, and most importantly walk for Springer!

Q:  What is the money we raised used for?

A: Walk-a-thon proceeds help fund instructional materials, supplies and printing costs at Springer. They help offset reductions to the Los Altos School district from the state. Funds also support Springer programs such as science, art, and music enrichment as well as other clubs and activities.

Q: How can I get involved?

A:  We are looking for volunteers for all aspects of the Walk-a-thon, from help with registration and food stations, to first aid and water, to counting laps and handing out prizes! We’ll make sure you get a job you are comfortable with and will support you fully to do an excellent a job. Rest assured that parents can both volunteer and enjoy the event – most are one-hour time slots and many are on the field in view of your student! Check out available slots and sign up by clicking on our Google doc.

Sponsor opportunities are also a great way to show community support for Springer and get some fantastic promotional placement. If you’re interested in sponsorship, please contact Christy at christine.gammons [at] gmail.com.

We thank you in advance for your support of this important Springer fundraiser, and can’t wait to see you there!
