Principal's Message

Dear Springer Families,

Our Ambassadors under the leadership of Ms. Williams and Mr. Conte are leading us through our last community service endeavor.  There is a more detailed article below. As a teaser our school is participating in collecting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters (and even dollars!) to help support Magical Bridge Playground Mountain View at Rengstorff Park from May 21 – June 1st.  You may make donations online: http://magicalbridges.org/springer   For more information about Magical Bridge coming to Mountain View:

Pick up and Drop Off

With the warm weather here more students are riding, scooting and walking to school.  So with more mobility we as drivers need to be alert and safe during the drop off and pick up.  Please follow the procedures by using the pick up and drop off lane for dropping off your child and picking them up.

Bell Schedule Reminder

The playground closes by 3:10pm (Mon,Tues, Wed. and Friday) and 1:55pm on Thursdays.  Students should leave the campus unless they are supervised by a parent, or enrolled in an after-school program.

Lost and Found

Don’t forget to check out the lost and found.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Lynn

Reading Corner

Reading Corner: Thank You, PTA!

Thanks to the generous support of the PTA, we are purchasing thousands of new books for students to read in their classrooms next year. We are thrilled that readers in all grades will have even more books available to them. We know that it’s important for children to spend lots of time in books that they can read successfully, and of course, students are more engaged and motivated when they have choice in what they read. These new books will allow for all our students to have more variety and choice in good-fit books. Our TK, kindergarten, and 1st grade classes will be getting books that are perfect for our youngest readers—engaging stories that students can read independently, and nonfiction texts that will allow them to learn about topics of their choice. Our 2nd and 3rd grades will receive a wide variety of new books, including nonfiction on many interesting topics and new choices for book clubs. Fourth and 5th graders will be getting new book club selections within the categories of historical fiction, realistic fiction, and fantasy. They also will have new books to use during research projects on California and American history. Our 6th graders are enjoying new books already in their latest book clubs, and there will be more choices for other units and projects next year. It was wonderful to see students’ excitement about their independent reading this year, and we are looking forward to being able to offer even more wonderful books in classroom libraries next year. Thank you for your support!

Junior Olympics Lost and Found

Junior Olympics Lost and Found and 6th Grade JO Tshirts

If you are missing an item from the Junior Olympics, please contact sharontantan@yahoo.com  Also, if your 6th grader would like to donate his/her t-shirt to future Springer Junior Olympians, please leave it in the JO cubby in the front office.  We will use these t-shirts as loaners next year. Thank you!

Magical Bridge Coin Drive

As renovations are taking place at Rengstorff Park, there is great anticipation for a new, innovative playground, created by the Magical Bridge Foundation.  The playground focuses on inclusion, creating ways to be accessible to people of all abilities. Springer School is helping to raise funds for the project with a coin drive.  There will be bins in the office and classrooms for donations. Of course, bills are happily accepted too! If you’d like to donate online, we have a site at http:// magicalbridge.org/springer

School Supplies Collection

Hello Springer parents! Since the end of the school year is fast approaching, most of your children will be cleaning out their desks and backpacks of their school supplies. Instead of throwing these away, it would be greatly appreciated if you would drop them in the cardboard box in the office labeled, "Supplying Schools." Supplying Schools is a club at Mountain View high school that collects gently used school supplies from LASD schools and donates them to schools in East Palo Alto whose teachers are taking money out of their own paychecks to buy supplies for their students. Please drop off pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, crayons, binders, folders, pencil boxes, sharpeners, scissors, backpacks, and any other supplies that are in decent condition. This box will be in the office starting on Tuesday, May 29 through June 13.   We really appreciate all that you have to offer. Thank you!

Shout Out for Springer!

Super proud of our school, with a shout out from the WE organization.  We are mentioned near the end of the newsletter (although it does say Santa Clara…ok, County).  Thanks to everyone that has helped all of our endeavors this year.

To save you the trouble of scrolling down to the bottom of the newsletter, here is the Springer highlight:

“Springer Elementary School worked relentlessly to share the cause! They made speeches at morning announcements, shared the WE Walk for Water video on their school website, and stood in front of the school before and after school to talk about WE Village’s Water pillar. A few of them even ordered the “This tee gives clean water” shirts, which also supported the conversation. They even made silicon bracelets, saying We Walk for Water, for anyone that donated $10 or more.
On Friday, April 27th, Springer students carried backpacks filled with water containers around their school field. As they loaded the water on their backs, they reminded students to consider how it would feel to do this every day for many hours in order to survive. They ended up raising over $1000 for WE Walk for Water and many parents thanked them for educating the community and supporting the cause. Way to go Springer!”

Springer Scribes

Every Thursday, a dedicated group of writers has been meeting at lunch to craft poems and stories as part of the Project Cornerstone FunVisor Springer Scribes activity. At our final two meetings on 5/10 and 5/17, each author is invited select their favorite work to be published in our fourth annual literary journal. If your child would like their work included, you can also email a copy to SpringerScribes@gmail.com.

This program is a really fun and rewarding opportunity for both the kids and the parent volunteers. It shows the kids another "caring adult" in their lives who can help them find their "spark." Our parent leader is "graduating" this year, so we are looking for parent(s) to keep the program going. If you are interested in volunteering next year, come by Thursday at lunch to learn more and join the fun, or send a message to SpringerScribes@gmail.com.

Yearbook

Thank you for submitting your pictures for the yearbook. It looks terrific and it is being sent to the printer on Sunday, 4/21. As such, we can no longer accept any more pictures. Every effort was made to include the pictures submitted.

As a reminder, the PTA is providing one yearbook to each student and will be distributed in early June. Thank you!

*If you are interested in purchase additional yearbooks, please contact Rachel -michelson.rachel@gmail.com, with the subject line: Springer Yearbook purchase question.
