Principal’s Message

Dear Springer Families,

Sixth Grade Promotion begins at 9am but at 8:30am we will be kicking off the event.  So please come at 8:30am.

This week our morning juggling class had its last class.  Over the course of fifteen plus years Michael Van De Vanter has been volunteering his time teaching Springer students juggling.  He first began sharing his love of juggling when his oldest child was a sixth grader at Springer.  By the way she is now thirty years old.  He thought after she graduated he might stop, but he had twin boys, and how could he let them down or any of the students who had caught on to the joy of juggling?  So his enthusiasm and his sense of giving back to the community continued.  Springer school has been so blessed to have such a giving community member.  On behalf of the entire Springer School we would like to recognize your thankless gift of giving and sharing of your love of juggling.

Field Day was a blast. Thank you to the community of volunteers and chair, Donna Murphy,  for making this a special day for our students.

Please come and check the lost and found.  On June 8th, all items will be collected and donated.  You may find a long lost treasure.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Lynn Boskie

Tentative Staffing for 2018-2019 School Year

The tentative staffing for the 2018-19 school year is listed below.  Please keep in mind there may be changes that occur over the summer.  If any changes occur they will be communicated.   As we add new staff members to our list and fill vacancies, we will keep you informed.

There are a few departures and changes due to enrollment and to staff leaving.   We would like to wish the best to Sasha Rockwell, and Veronica Alcaraz who will be leaving LASD and beginning new journeys.  In addition, we send our best to Lisa Swarbrick who is continuing her journey in LASD at Santa Rita Elementary School.  They each have had a positive impact on the Springer students and staff.  Their contributions to the Springer learning community is greatly appreciated. We wish them the best on their new journeys.

Reading Corner

Reading Corner: Have a Great Summer!

Summer can be a great time to fit in a little extra reading. I certainly have a growing collection of books to read in the coming months! Your child might continue to read regularly by reading independently, by reading together with you or someone else, and/or by listening to someone else read; all are valuable. It’s a great time to try a new series, learn about a vacation spot or other interesting subject, or use a how-to book to try something new. A student recently told me about how he loves to draw characters and settings from books, so that could be a great way to incorporate art as well. If your child is looking for books, there are new choices available through the school library’s e-book collection. You might also check out the local public libraries, which have summer reading programs for children and adults. Have a wonderful summer, and as always, happy reading!

School Supplies Collection

Hello Springer parents! Since the end of the school year is fast approaching, most of your children will be cleaning out their desks and backpacks of their school supplies. Instead of throwing these away, it would be greatly appreciated if you would drop them in the cardboard box in the office labeled, "Supplying Schools." Supplying Schools is a club at Mountain View high school that collects gently used school supplies from LASD schools and donates them to schools in East Palo Alto whose teachers are taking money out of their own paychecks to buy supplies for their students. Please drop off pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, crayons, binders, folders, pencil boxes, sharpeners, scissors, backpacks, and any other supplies that are in decent condition. This box will be in the office starting on Tuesday, May 29 through June 13.   We really appreciate all that you have to offer. Thank you!

Cub Scout Bike Rodeo!

On June 6, 2018, Springer’s Cub Scout pack will be hosting a Bike Rodeo and Pizza Party for boys and girls K-4 (and parents) on the Springer Blacktop from 6.30 - 8.00pm. Bring your bike, scooter or 3 wheeler and helmet and see how much fun Scouting can be. For more information, please contact Drew Spitteler - cubmaster@springerpack36.org.

San Jose Giants On June 2!

San Jose Giants Pack the Park on Saturday, June 2nd!

This year we're closing out the school year with our annual San Jose Giants Springer Packs the Park Day on June 2nd!  This is a great community event for our school and fundraiser all in one!  The game time is Saturday June 2nd at 6pm. The first 1,000 in attendance will take home a replica of the 1998 California League Championship ring and all will enjoy FIREWORKS after the game!  During the game, our very own Springer Singers will perform and two Springer students will throw the first pitch.

We will see you at the game tomorrow night!

LASD Wants To Hear From You!

LASD’s Board of Trustees is seeking community perspectives regarding the plan for the proposed new school site—and they would love to hear from you!

Next week, the district will launch a ThoughtExchange, an online forum where you can share community perspectives. The online forum is convenient, easy to use and confidential—and I hope you will participate.  You will receive an emailed invitation to participate, or you may pre-register here.  Visit ThoughtExchange to learn more or email support@thoughtexchange.com.  Learn more about LASD’s progress in obtaining a new school site here.

Thank you for supporting our students.

Blach Hot Lunch Volunteers Needed

Congratulations to all your graduating 6th graders.  For those of you with children entering Blach next year that would like to help out at the school, please consider volunteering to serve lunch.  This is a fun way to see the kids in action and one of the very few opportunities for volunteering at Blach. We start serving lunch on the first day of school.  Because of this, crews are being set up now.  It is a great way to stay connected to other parents from your elementary school and also to meet new parents. There is plenty of room to organize a small group that wants to work together.

I am temporarily helping with the schedule so please contact me at srkhuntia@yahoo.com if you'd like to volunteer or if you have any questions.  Please let me know what days work for you and if you would like to volunteer every week or every other week or would like to be put on the substitute list.  Please also let me know if you want to be scheduled with specific people.

Thank you so much,

Sarita Khuntia
