Principal’s Message |
Dear Springer Families,
The year has come to an end. I honestly don’t know where the time went--It blew by. The last two years has been an incredible journey. As the one year ends, a new road of opportunity opens for all of us. New friends, memories and learning will continually happen. Be open to the newest, and embrace the excitement that comes from exploration. I will miss the Springer Ohana. Springer families and staff thank you all for supporting the students and making these two years incredibly awesome! Thank you all for making my last day an amazing day! I am so humbled by the gift(s). I truly feel blessed to have had the last two years with your children and the Springer Community. I will forever treasure the time I have had at Springer!
Buzz… your children and you have made a lasting impression on me. I will continue to practice the The Springer Way! I wish you all a summer full of relaxation, adventure and fun filled learning!

Hot Lunch for 2018-2019 |
We will be continuing with Choice Lunch as our lunch vendor for the 2018-2019 school year. Any remaining balance on your account will roll over to next year. If you will NOT have a child at Springer in 2018-2019, you will need to contact Choice Lunch to request a refund of your remaining balance. (Choice Lunch is not the lunch vendor at Blach or Egan.)
We are seeking volunteers to join the Hot Lunch crew for 2018-2019. The Hot Lunch program would not be possible without the 20 volunteers per week that come in to serve lunch! The lunch volunteer shift is weekly, or alternating weeks, from 11:25-12:15. Contact HotLunch@springerpta.net to join the lunch volunteer crew or if you’d like more information. We’re currently looking for a hot lunch certification manger. To find out what this position entails, please contact Alan Bayer at: abayer@hotmail.com |
School Supplies Collection |
Hello Springer parents! Since the end of the school year is fast approaching, most of your children will be cleaning out their desks and backpacks of their school supplies. Instead of throwing these away, it would be greatly appreciated if you would drop them in the cardboard box in the office labeled, "Supplying Schools." Supplying Schools is a club at Mountain View high school that collects gently used school supplies from LASD schools and donates them to schools in East Palo Alto whose teachers are taking money out of their own paychecks to buy supplies for their students. Please drop off pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, crayons, binders, folders, pencil boxes, sharpeners, scissors, backpacks, and any other supplies that are in decent condition. This box will be in the office starting on Tuesday, May 29 through June 13. We really appreciate all that you have to offer. Thank you! |
LASD Wants To Hear From You! |
LASD’s Board of Trustees is seeking community perspectives regarding the plan for the proposed new school site—and they would love to hear from you!
Next week, the district will launch a ThoughtExchange, an online forum where you can share community perspectives. The online forum is convenient, easy to use and confidential—and I hope you will participate. You will receive an emailed invitation to participate, or you may pre-register here. Visit ThoughtExchange to learn more or email support@thoughtexchange.com. Learn more about LASD’s progress in obtaining a new school site here.
Thank you for supporting our students. |
Blach Hot Lunch Volunteers Needed |
Congratulations to all your graduating 6th graders. For those of you with children entering Blach next year that would like to help out at the school, please consider volunteering to serve lunch. This is a fun way to see the kids in action and one of the very few opportunities for volunteering at Blach. We start serving lunch on the first day of school. Because of this, crews are being set up now. It is a great way to stay connected to other parents from your elementary school and also to meet new parents. There is plenty of room to organize a small group that wants to work together. I am temporarily helping with the schedule so please contact me at srkhuntia@yahoo.com if you'd like to volunteer or if you have any questions. Please let me know what days work for you and if you would like to volunteer every week or every other week or would like to be put on the substitute list. Please also let me know if you want to be scheduled with specific people. Thank you so much, Sarita Khuntia |
Living Classroom Thank You! |
The Los Altos School District Living Classroom program consists of 37 dedicated volunteers who, along with staff, delivered 482 nature-based garden lessons to approximately 3,600 elementary school children in the Los Altos School District this year. 94% of TK-6 grade classes throughout the district participated in our voluntary program which consists of science, math and social studies lessons that are aligned with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards and which promote environmental literacy and stewardship as well as healthy eating habits.
Thank you to Springer parents Heidi Melander, Jessica Shepherd, Lori Breen, Shweta Kumari and Irina Sinitsyna for leading and assisting with so many lessons this year! A big THANK YOU also goes out to all the amazing parents who signed up to help with lessons in their child’s classroom. We also want to acknowledge Heidi Melander for serving as our Living Classroom liaison and all the parents who helped Heidi with garden upkeep and lunchtime activities at the school this year. We could not have done it without you!
New docents are taught Living Classroom lessons by staff and experienced docents on Monday mornings from September through March. Living Classroom welcomes new members to join the next docent-in-training class in the fall. To learn more, come to our Informational Coffee on Monday, August 27th at 10am in the iLearn Studio at the district office (201 Covington Road, Los Altos).
