Principal’s Message

Dear Springer Families,

Thanksgiving brings us the opportunity to step back and reflect on the goodness in our lives. As I watch the news, I am grateful for my freedom, a place to call home, food on my table, health, and my family. Too often I am so busy that I forget those things are not givens and can be taken away tomorrow. With all of the recent events in our state, country and world, I am also reminded that caring for others regardless of their differences is truly the core of humanity. We will never agree with everyone, but the true sign of our character is to be able to live a life that looks for the good, forgives, and loves.

What better model can we be but that for our kids?

I wish each of you a blessed Thanksgiving.

Warmly,

Robin

Our Recent Fires

We will all agree that the events this past week have been devastating to so many people and families through the loss of homes, possessions, and life.  The Springer staff considered doing a drive to help our neighbors to the north and south, but through our research we found that what they really are requesting is our monetary donations, as needs vary and storage areas are limited. We encourage you to consider having a conversation as a family and possibly donating to a charity of your choice. May we count our blessings.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is growing with the cool mornings and the warm, autumn afternoons. Please check the closet by the multipurpose room this weekend if your child is missing a jacket. We will donate any items left after the weekend to a local charity.

Holiday Giving Tree

Dear Springer Families,

Are you ready to "Bee Generous" and make a difference this holiday season? Springer School and our 3rd grade Girl Scout Troop #60466 is proud to partner with Family Giving Tree for their Holiday Wish Drive again this year. Since 1990, Family Giving Tree has served over 1.5 million Bay Area individuals living in poverty and is looking to our school to support their work spreading joy and kindness.

This year, Family Giving Tree has set a goal to fulfill holiday wishes and give gifts to 80,000 local children, adults and seniors in need. We are hoping to help them reach this goal by December 7th.

Here's how you can help:

Choose a wish card in the Springer office and shop for the specific gift. These cards, (with the name, age, gender, and wish of a person in need), will be hanging on our "Bee Generous Giving Tree", starting Monday, November 26.  All gift donations should be unwrapped with the wish card and a toothbrush securely taped to the package.  Gifts are due in the Springer office by Friday, December 7.

Please contact Diana Rudolph (drudolph@lasdschools.org) or Laura Rossi (lmrossi@gmail.com) if you have any questions. You may also visit www.FamilyGivingTree.org for more information about the program. Thank you for helping us bring hope and joy to those in need!

One Warm Coat Drive

Girl Scout Troop 61163 is collecting coats, sweaters, jackets, sweatshirts, or scarves. Also, any warm hats or mittens, would be appreciated. All items collected will be donated to One Warm Coat. One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that works to provide a free, warm coat to any person in need and raises awareness of the vital need for warm coats.

You can help Girl Scout Troop 61163 spread warmth! Simply go through your closets and pull out your gently worn outerwear that will keep someone warm. ALL SIZES ARE WELCOME. Drop your donations off in the Springer Office in the box labeled 'One Warm Coat’. We are collecting through November 28th. If you have questions you can contact emily@dancinggate.com

Charging Stations

The week of November 19 - 23,  charging stations will be installed in our parking lot.  The first row of parking near Rose Avenue, will be excavated, and the charging stations will be installed.

Attendance Policies

Absences and late arrivals are to be reported to the school by a parent or guardian by calling the Attendance Line at 650-943-4240 by 9:00 am. You may also email at Springer Attendance at SpringerAttendance@lasdschools.org

After 9:00 am, please call the office directly at 650-943-4200.   The office MUST be notified, separate from notifying the teacher.

Students who arrive after the school day begins must sign in at the office to receive a late arrival pass.

FEVERS:  A child may return to school after they have remained fever free and/or not vomited for 24 hours.

LAEF

 We have a Challenge Match!

We've raised $2.2 million so far, but still have $1.3 million to go to fund our grant to our school district this school year. Now is a great time to donate to LAEF because we have a new challenge match. Three generous anonymous donors will match every dollar donated before December 31st, up to a total of $25,000. Your donation will be doubled if you give now!

The suggested donation is $1,200 per student or $150/month, but donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. Donate online, or text "LAEF" to 50155 to donate.
