Principal’s Message

Season’s Greetings

This time of year brings many memories to mind of family and friends. I can remember opening up my first Easy Bake Oven, watching my Mother cook enough for dinner to feed the neighborhood, and enjoying an inner tube ride down a hill with my brothers. Mind you, they did not save me from running into the pine tree. Though brought up with little, I would later realize that life is made up of the small moments and not the big ones. It is the hug, the smile, the joy of laughter, and the love of those around you that stays with you.  My wish for you is that you find time to enjoy each day for what it brings and to make the little moments matter.

Happy Holidays

PTA Nominating Committee Volunteers Needed

Looking for a fun, short-term way to get involved with the Springer PTA?  The PTA needs volunteers to join the Nominating Committee, whose job it is to nominate a slate of officers for next year’s PTA Board.  The Nominating Committee conducts its outreach in February and the PTA Board nominations are held in March.

If interested, please contact us ASAP at board@springerpta.net

Thank you!

This year's theme: The Olympics!

Go for the Gold Springer and embrace your inner Olympic champion. From the unforgettable heroic athletes, to the activewear and the over the top pageantry, the Olympics inspires us all. Just remember, the most important thing in the Olympics is not to win but to take part!

Furry Friends

Your dogs are adorable; but please keep them off of the Springer Campus during the school day; including drop-off and pick-up.  Thank you!

Sweatpants Needed

The Springer Office is in need of gently used or new sweatpants in childrens sizes small and medium.  We would like 5 pairs in each size, and dark colors are preferable.  Please let us know if you can contribute by calling our office at 650-943-4200.  Thank you!

After-School Enrichment

All of our after-school enrichment programs are renewing for the Winter and Spring sessions.  Please click here to check out our offerings.  If you don’t see your favorite program, or if you have questions, please contact Linda Ripley-Smith in the school office at 650-943-4200.

A Note From The LASD Nurse

Sometimes it is difficult, especially early in the morning, to know whether or not to send your child to school. The following guidelines are indications that you should keep him/her home. In this way, you are helping to control the spread of colds, flu, and other contagious illnesses.

Keep your child at home when he/she has any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Vomiting or Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Sore throat or trouble swallowing
  • Coughing, sneezing, and/or runny nose
  • Rash or unusual sores or spots
  • Headache
  • Generalized muscle aches and pains
  • Weezing or trouble breathing
  • Unusually red, crusted or burning eyes
  • Head lice

You need to keep your child home until he/she has been symptom free without medication for 24 hours.

Also, NOTIFY THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY if your child is exposed to or contracts chicken pox, mumps or measles or whooping cough (pertussis). These conditions can be life threatening to students who are undergoing therapies that suppress their immune systems.

The following information is only a guide to common childhood health concerns. Call our District Nurses or personal health care provider for more information. Always bring a copy of a physician’s note to school and/or notify the school if your child will have an extended absence due to a health condition for 10 days or longer.

LAEF

LAEF has pledged to raise $3.5 Million in 2018-19 to bring essential programs to all students in the Los Altos School District. For each elementary school, LAEF funds teachers and staff for art, music, library, computer science, STEM, PE, and literacy aides for grades 1 & 2. LAEF is also a co-sponsor of the MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series

Your Donation Can be Doubled

We still need to raise $800,000 to meet our goal of $3.5 million. Now is a great time to make your tax-deductible donation to LAEF because we have a Challenge Match. Four generous anonymous donors will match every dollar donated before December 31st, up to a total of $30,000. Your donation can be doubled if you give now!

The suggested donation is $1,200 per student or $150/month, but donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. Donate online, or text "LAEF" to 50155 to donate.

Two Weeks Left for Corporate Matching in 2018

Did you know that in the 2017-18 school year, LAEF received $667,000 in corporate matching funds? With less than 20 days until the end of the tax year, now is the time to submit a matching request to your company. Find out if your company matches, and how to request a company match at LAEFonline.org/donate.
