Principal’s Message

 Dear Springer Families,

I hope you had a nice three day weekend and were able to spend time with loved ones. As we reflect on our nation’s history of addressing equality, may we remember that great leaders, such as Martin Luther King Jr., believed, modeled, and spoke for all people to have the same opportunities and freedoms.

Tuesday, we had a district Professional  Learning Day which focused on providing rigor in our daily classroom instruction. Teachers had the opportunity to engage in various topics such as:

  • In depth exploration of the importance of conferring and small groups in reading and writing workshop, exploration of resources, facilitated practice, and structured planning time.
  • Implementing critical skills associated with academic conversations, clarify the expectations for students with strategies for engaging students in quality talk during every phase of the lesson.
  • How to teach grammar and conventions in a way that is explicit, but also engaging and relevant to students as readers and writers.
  • Implementing a Routine for Reasoning designed to develop students’ ability to make sense of problems by deconstructing the process of reading mathematical situations

We had Tiara Wirkkala, our Instructional Support Teacher, as well as Joanie Craddock, our STEM Support Teacher, facilitate some of the workshops. They did an exceptional job and reminded me of how  blessed we are to have these two ladies supporting our school every day!

We are doing great things for our kids!

Warmly,

Robin
