Principal’s Message

Dear Springer Families,

Where did February go? It is hard to believe it is already March. Just a reminder that Daylight Saving Time begins March 10th.

March brings an exciting addition to our school. Some of our current students are enrolled in an after school Chinese School that previously resided at the Hillview School campus. This program will now be servicing their students at their home schools throughout our district. Springer currently has about 24 students who access this program. Beginning March 18th, their classes will begin here after school until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We will still be offering our other enrichment classes after school, but their room assignments may change as we are flexing our rooms to accommodate the new classes.

I look forward to this as being another opportunity to meet the needs of our students.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Robin

STEM Career Day Events at

Junior High Schools

stem

LASD & LAEF are excited to kick off the 3rd STEM Career Day Events at Egan and Blach Jr. High Schools this spring. STEM pervades every part of our life. STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. We believe that exposing students to different aspects and careers in this field will inspire them and spark passion.

If you are a parent, grandparent or community member who would like to share your career story with students at Egan on March 25 and/or Blach on March 26, please contact Karen Wilson, STEM Coordinator atkwilson@lasdschools.org or Anjana Nagarajan-Butaney, LASD parent atanjana.nagarajan1@gmail.com

Also, please mark your calendars for the STEM Night Event being held on Monday, March 25 at Egan Jr. High starting at 7pm.  Speakers to be announced in the near future.

6th Grade String Fling Concert

6th Grade Orchestra Students from Loyola, Oak, and Springer will be featured in a performance with Blach Intermediate School Orchestras. Come to see the progression of string students from elementary to middle school. It is a free concert, everyone is invited!

Flash Mob is Back!

Back by popular demand, the Springer Auction flash mob is back! This year's theme will be the Olympics, so get ready for a fun group dance performance to remember. Flash mob participation is open to parents, faculty and staff, so feel free to sign up by clicking on this link. Springer parent, Reena Vokoun, will be leading the effort again this year and will be selecting music, choreographing the dance routine and leading the group through 4 practices to prepare for the performance at the auction on March 16. The practices will be held at 7:45 p.m. on February 13, February 28 and March 6 in Springer Room 20 and March 13 in the Springer Multi. Please contact reena.vokoun@gmail.com with any questions!

LAEF

Love Your Neighborhood School!

Donate to LAEF today and fund teachers at your school. Help ensure that your student receives an excellent, well-rounded education. We need to raise the final $400K to reach our goal of $3.5M for this school year!

The timing is just right because we have a $15K Challenge Match from The John and Liane Davila Foundation and an anonymous LASD family to DOUBLE all donations made by February 28th.

It couldn't be easier:  Donate online or text "LAEF" to 50155 to donate. As always, our goal is 100% participation from all LASD families.

Save Us a Call

On February 12th, we'll have a winter phonathon. If you have not donated this school year,  donate now,  and we'll take you off our call list.

STEM in Every Grade

Find out what our students are learning in STEM this school year. Check out new photos of kids in action, watch a video, and learn about exciting projects. Your donation to LAEF supports the LASD STEM program and more.

 Parent Education Opportunities

Please visit the MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series website for more detailed information and registration for each event.  MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series events are free, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors – the PTA, LAEF, and MVLA High School Foundation.
