Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

So many fun activities occurred this week and I am sure I missed a few as well.

5th Grade History Musical was incredible.  Students singing, dancing, and reciting historical facts.  Here are a few of the snapshots:

Not faraway down the hall the 4th graders were celebrating Ranchero Day.  Here are a few snapshots:

Cornerstone Corner

Cornerstone Corner

This month’s ABC book: René Has Two Last Names by René Colato Laínez

is a story drawn from the author’s own personal immigrant experience. The focus of the book is to help students learn to respect different cultural customs and traditions, and to have an inclusive mindset.

Goals of lesson:

  1. Understand and learn about different cultures and how diversity makes us stronger.

  2. Identify and celebrate individual’s personal identities.

  3. Use positive personal power to stand up for traditions and beliefs.

  4. Be inclusive and accepting of differences.

  5. Learn to pronounce names correctly.

Questions to ask and discuss to reinforce this lesson at home:

  • Has anyone made fun of you because you were different? How did that make you feel?

  • Would you ever want to change your name? What name would you choose?

  • Have you ever helped a new student or neighbor feel more comfortable?

  • What is the story of how you got your name?

  • What foods are from your culture? Do you eat foods from other cultures?

When you “catch” kids modeling positive behaviors...

Notice, Name it, and Celebrate it!

OhmConnect: A Novel Fundraising Platform

The Springer community started using a novel fundraising platform last year, called OhmConnect. We raised $930 last year, and $1500 this year by having a handful of parents of the school turn down their electricity usage just one hour per week.

We're aiming to raise $5,000 this year and all you need to do is signup using this link and connect your utility account.

ohm.co/springer

OhmConnect donates between $50 - $150 per team member per year, depending on how much you reduce. They'll be donating an instant $75 per new team member. If you haven't signed up yet, now's the time to do it!
