Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

As the year is winding down I wanted to take a moment to thank all of our volunteers.  As Elizabeth Andrew so eloquently quoted  “ Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”  Your time and the lives each of you have positively affected is greatly appreciated.   It takes a community to raise a child.  Thank you for filling our students and staffs buckets through your volunteering.

Through your volunteering you are actively showing our students and your child the value of giving back.  “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.Winston Churchill

It was great to see everyone at the Family Picnic last night.  Thank you Nicole Bassett for bringing back the event.  It was a perfect evening.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Lynn Boskie

Springer’s 5th annual Field Day will be on Friday, June 2.  This is a very fun event that the kids really look forward to.  We are looking for parent volunteers to help with various activities that morning.  (It’s a minimum day.)

Please click here to signup.  Contact Donna Murphy (at jcdrm[at]yahoo[dot]com) if you have any questions.

Collecting Used School Supplies

Hello Springer parents! Since the end of the school year is fast approaching, most of your children will be cleaning out their desks and backpacks of their school supplies. Instead of throwing these away, it would be greatly appreciated if you would drop them in the cardboard box in the Springer office labeled, "Supplying Schools." Supplying Schools is a club at Mountain View high school that collects gently used school supplies from LASD schools and donates them to schools in East Palo Alto whose teachers are taking money out of their own paychecks to buy supplies for their students. Please drop off pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, crayons, binders, folders, pencil boxes, sharpeners, scissors, backpacks, and any other supplies that are in decent condition. We really appreciate all that you have to offer.  The collection starts Friday, May 26 and will end on the last day of School.  Thank you for your support!

Yearbooks Are Coming!

There are hard copy order forms in the school office, and the soft copy went out to the Google Groups.  Please get your order form in by Friday, May 26.  Click here for the order form!

Springer Scribes

2017 Literary Journal of the Springer Scribes Coming Soon

Every Wednesday, a dedicated group of writers has been meeting at lunch to craft poems and stories. At our final two meetings on 5/17 and 5/24, each author will select their favorite work to include in our third annual literary journal. If your child would like their work included, you can also email a copy to SpringerScribes@gmail.com.

This is a really fun and rewarding program for both the kids and the parent volunteers. If you are interested in helping out, come by Wednesday at lunch to join the fun, or send a message to SpringerScribes@gmail.com.

Attention Sixth Grade Parents!

Hello 6th grade Parents,

Congratulations to all your graduating 6th graders.  For those of you with children entering Blach next year that would like to help out at the school, please consider volunteering to serve lunch.  This is a fun way to see the kids in action and one of the very few opportunities for volunteering at Blach. In the past, sign ups happen at the back to school coffee, but now we start serving lunch on the first day of school.  Because of this, crews are being set up now.  It is a great way to stay connected to other parents from your elementary school and also to meet new parents. There is plenty of room to organize a small group that wants to work together.

Please contact me at srkhuntia@yahoo.com if you'd like to volunteer or if you have any questions.  Please let me know what days work for you and if you would like to volunteer every week or every other week or would like to be put on the substitute list.  Please also let me know if you want to be scheduled with specific people.

Thank you so much,

Sarita Khuntia

Blach Hot Lunch committee

Tick-tock…three weeks and $59,325 to go!

In these final weeks of the 2016-17 school year, we are counting on 40 more LASD families to donate, fulfill their pledges, or submit a corporate match. We are so close to meeting LAEF's $3.7M fundraising goal, but we still have $59,325 to go. Every dollar makes a big difference! Please give or request a corporate match via LAEFonline.org or drop a check in our school’s office this week. Thank you.

Coding & Music…a perfect combination

We hope you enjoyed the classical, folk songs, popular music, and film favorites coming from our 4th, 5th and 6th grade LASD Spring Music Concerts in addition to being wowed by the projects created by our 6th grade CSTEM students from all seven elementary schools at the CSTEM Expo. Special thanks to our 2,205 donors so far this school year who have made these enriching educational experiences possible!
