Principal’s Message

Dear Springer Families,

What an positive energy filled week:

  • Started off with Lego Expo.  There were lots of creative individual and group projects.

  • Dance presentations from our students under the direction of NRaca from Starting Arts. Thank you PTA for support in providing the fine arts.

  • Springer Scribes were autographing each other’s writing.  I was thrilled to read the poems, short letters and stories.  What a precious gift the students are sharing with each other and their families.

  • Field Day was incredible. …………..Thank you to all the volunteers who coordinated, participated and who made this student event happen.   The students had so much fun.

  • As you walked your children to school this morning, you may have noticed the large book shelves outside the library--we’re making room for the library’s new carpeting!

This upcoming week:

  • Tuesday, June 6th the fourth grade classes will  be performing the musical “California Missions…and More!”  I have seen them rehearsing…. Don’t miss the event. It starts at 12:30pm in the Multi.

PTA Corner

It's hard to believe another school year is almost complete!  On behalf of PTA we wish to thank our wonderful community of teachers, office staff and parents for your constant support.  We hope we have achieved PTA's mission of enriching the lives of children through supporting their learning with books, technology, classroom funds, Project Cornerstone, lunchtime offerings, Starting Arts, Living Classroom and specific purchases such as the kiln for our art program.   We have continued many Springer traditions including Walkathon, the auction, book fair, Springer Gives Back, Junior Olympics and field day and reinstated or started new initiatives such as the family Hoedown, teacher book drive, quad mural, cookie exchange and spring picnic.  We are thrilled to announce that we have partnered with the city of Mountain View and LASD to have multiple trees planted over the summer.  Without the dedication of the PTA Board and the immeasurable volunteer hours provided by many many parents and friends of Springer, none of these programs would be possible.

A few announcements as we look towards next year:

  • Incoming Kinder parents - we are looking for a few parents to help coordinate playdates over the summer so that you can get to know your new classmates.  Please contact Rachel Michelson (rachel.michelson at gmail.com) if you are interested.

  • There is one remaining PTA board position to fill along with a few committee chair opportunities - please contact Rachel Michelson for more information.

  • PTA will be purchasing school supplies for every child over the summer so that they are ready to learn on the first day of school.  Parents, use this as an opportunity to get more R&R over the summer as you won't need to shop for supplies!

  • Mark your calendars for our first "Grandfriends Day" on September 8th...be thinking of a grandparent, family member or special friend your child would like to invite as their guest that morning.

  • Be sure to join us at the Back to School coffee on the first day of school!

A warm farewell and thanks to the 6th parents who are graduating along with their children.  You will all be missed and we wish you wonderful times ahead!

Collecting Used School Supplies

Hello Springer parents! Since the end of the school year is fast approaching, most of your children will be cleaning out their desks and backpacks of their school supplies. Instead of throwing these away, it would be greatly appreciated if you would drop them in the cardboard box in the Springer office labeled, "Supplying Schools." Supplying Schools is a club at Mountain View high school that collects gently used school supplies from LASD schools and donates them to schools in East Palo Alto whose teachers are taking money out of their own paychecks to buy supplies for their students. Please drop off pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, crayons, binders, folders, pencil boxes, sharpeners, scissors, backpacks, and any other supplies that are in decent condition. We really appreciate all that you have to offer.  The collection starts Friday, May 26 and will end on the last day of School.  Thank you for your support!

Cub Scouts

Springer's Cub Scout pack invites all boys in grades K-4 and their parents to a bike rodeo and pizza party on Wed., June 7, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on the Springer blacktop. Get a taste of Scouting and consider joining this fall! Kindergartners are especially welcome. For more information, please contact cubmaster[at]springerpack36.org.

2017-2018 Hot Lunch Program

We will be continuing with Choice Lunch for 2017-2018.  Any remaining balance on your account will roll over to next year.  If you will NOT have a child at Springer in 2017-2018, you will need to contact Choice Lunch to request a refund of your remaining balance.  (Choice Lunch is not the lunch vendor at Blach or Egan.)

We are seeking volunteers to join the Hot Lunch crew for 2017-2018.   The Hot Lunch program would not be possible without the 20+ volunteers per week that come in to serve lunch!  The lunch volunteer shift is weekly, or alternating weeks, from 11:25-12:15.  Contact Donna Murphy (at jcdrm{at}yahoo{dot}com) to join the lunch crew or if you’d like more information.

Attention Sixth Grade Parents!

Hello 6th grade Parents,

Congratulations to all your graduating 6th graders.  For those of you with children entering Blach next year that would like to help out at the school, please consider volunteering to serve lunch.  This is a fun way to see the kids in action and one of the very few opportunities for volunteering at Blach. In the past, sign ups happen at the back to school coffee, but now we start serving lunch on the first day of school.  Because of this, crews are being set up now.  It is a great way to stay connected to other parents from your elementary school and also to meet new parents. There is plenty of room to organize a small group that wants to work together.

Please contact me at srkhuntia@yahoo.com if you'd like to volunteer or if you have any questions.  Please let me know what days work for you and if you would like to volunteer every week or every other week or would like to be put on the substitute list.  Please also let me know if you want to be scheduled with specific people.

Thank you so much,

Sarita Khuntia

Blach Hot Lunch committee
