Principal’s Message |
Dear Springer Families, Yesterday was my father’s birthday, he would have been 81. Twenty-one years ago he and his group of friends, once called From the Heart Gang, put on their last giving back event. I didn’t understand over the ten years they were together the magnitude of their giving until the events stopped. The giving of others was one thing, but what they gave to each other during the events, the preparation and their time spent together was priceless to their children. Through their examples we (the children) have continued to give with humility, empathy, joy and passion to others in whatever big or small way we can. We learned that together with others can do so much more, that there is a world beyond ours and that our actions of love can pierce the hearts of all. My father taught me that volunteering and giving of our time = love. I miss him everyday and feel so blessed to have been his daughter. Springer Gives Back My hope for this years Springer Gives Back is that our students will find this event more meaningful to them by becoming connected with the organization and the process in their specific grade levels giving back. The older grade students will be sharing information about the organization and the people they are helping through their giving. Below is a list of the organizations and the grade levels assigned to each organization.
The coin drive is our school wide event binding us all together. To our Springer Families thank you for spreading the “Springer Way!” A special thank you to all the parents who have organized this event and have spent the time connecting with the above organizations. This week as we celebrated Ability Awareness, the parents who volunteered for the event and for all the parents who are volunteering or will be volunteering in current and future events...you are our From the Heart Gang! The Ability awareness was a great success. Students learned about the different abilities we each have and that some of our abilities come with ease and others are more challenging. Empathy for others was the theme throughout the week. Be sure to ask your child about the week and have them share what was important to them. Thank you for being examples to your children and thank you for being part of the Springer Ohana. Lynn Boskie

Holiday Wish Drive |
Dear Springer Families,
Are you ready to "Bee Generous" and make a difference this holiday season? Springer School and our Girl Scout Cadettes Troop #61166 are excited to announce that we will be hosting a Family Giving Tree Holiday Wish Drive again this year!
For the past 27 years, the Family Giving Tree has fulfilled gift wishes for over 1.3 million San Francisco Bay Area children, families and seniors from low-income households. In 2016 alone – with the help of nonprofits, schools, groups and business that helped lead drives – they fulfilled over 76,000 holiday wishes. This year, the Family Giving Tree goal is to fulfill the holiday wishes of 80,000 local children, and our school can help them achieve this!
Here's how you can help: Choose a wish card in the Springer office and fulfill a child’s wish. Cards will be hanging on our "Bee Generous Giving Tree", starting Monday, November 27. All gift donations should be unwrapped with the wish card and a toothbrush securely taped to the package. Gifts are due in the office by Friday, December 8.
Please contact Diana Rudolph (drudolph@lasdschools.org) or Gail Roosakos (gail@roosakos.com) if you have any questions. You may also visitwww.FamilyGivingTree.org for more information about the program. Thank you for helping us bring hope and joy to those in need! |

We would like to thank Nicole Bassett, Christy Flahaven, Emily Fuller, Ann Kanodia, Christina Keech, Holly Jacobs Khazam, Elodie Laplace-Grangier, Jaimie Lee, Fei Li, Candice Lin, Stephanie Liva, Sue Longyear, Brooke Lopez, Donna Murphy, Cathy Pedersen, Gail Roosakos, Lilly Shieh, Igna Speiss, Sharon Tan, Kathy Thompson and Jian-Qing Zhao for their help. Our next Book Fair will be held in March. If you love books and would like to help us plan our next Book Fair, please contact Anita at amleo73@yahoo.com. Lost And Found |
Lost and Found is beginning to bust! Please stop by the Lost and Found near the multi if you are on campus or remind your children to stop by and take a look. You may find a long lost treasure. Is there a parent that is willing to organize the Lost & Found a couple of times a year? This would require going through the clothing and putting it out so that the parents and students can see it and retrieve their lost items. If you’re interested, please contact the Springer School Office at 650-943-4200. |
When To Keep Your Child Home From School |
||||||||||||
Sometimes it is difficult, especially early in the morning, to know whether or not to send your child to school. The following guidelines are indications that you should keep him/her home. In this way, you are helping to control the spread of colds, flu, and other contagious illnesses. Keep your child at home when he/she has any of the following symptoms:
You need to keep your child home until he/she has been symptom free without medication for 24 hours. Also, NOTIFY THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY if your child is exposed to or contracts chicken pox, mumps or measles or whooping cough (pertussis). These conditions can be life threatening to students who are undergoing therapies that suppress their immune systems. The following information is only a guide to common childhood health concerns. Call our District Nurses (650-444-9702 or 650-537-8119) or personal health care provider for more information. Always bring a copy of a physician’s note to school and/or notify the school if your child will have an extended absence due to a health condition for 10 days or longer. If you would like more information on how to spot flu symptoms, you may go to the LASD Health website by clicking here. |
